How we research and review products
Our standards for product selection, evidence, updates and affiliate relationships.
Last updated: July 26, 2026
1. Start with a real buying question
Every guide should identify who it is for, what problem the buyer is solving and which constraints matter. We avoid publishing broad lists that exist only to contain links.
2. Use relevant evaluation criteria
Depending on the category, our criteria include:
- Fashion: materials, sizing, care, versatility and return policies
- Beauty: ingredients, intended skin or hair type, usage instructions, patch-testing cautions and suitability
- Home: dimensions, materials, maintenance, installation and practical use
- Technology: compatibility, specifications, security, support and warranty
3. Separate research from hands-on testing
Research-led content draws on manufacturer documentation, operating-system or standards documentation, reputable technical sources and product availability. Hands-on testing is only claimed when the product has actually been used, and the article will describe the test conditions.
4. Include limitations and alternatives
A useful recommendation explains what a product does poorly, which buyer should avoid it and what alternative may suit a different need. Products are not awarded a place merely because they offer an affiliate programme.
5. Handle affiliate relationships transparently
Commercial links are identified and do not change the price paid by the reader. Retailers and brands do not receive editorial approval rights. Sponsored content, if accepted in the future, will be labelled separately from independent editorial content.
6. Update important pages
Guides may be updated when products are discontinued, specifications change, compatibility information becomes outdated or stronger alternatives become available. The visible updated date reflects a meaningful review rather than an automatic timestamp change.
Corrections
Readers and brands can report factual errors through the contact page. Corrections are evaluated against reliable evidence and made without requiring a commercial relationship.
